Hey Frank congrats on this major milestone. You aren’t getting older you are getting better.
Many most happy returns of the day!
Frank,
I will commemorate your special day with an anecdote. One night I got home after work. It was a horrible day. I was tired and feeling down. To make matters worse, I found out that a possible job in Continental US had fallen through. Then I opened my email and saw a message from Frank Ochberg. As I read it, I saw your friendly semblance. I heard your contagious laugh, and felt the optimism that characterizes you. I immediately felt better. That’s what you are: an antidote to pain and suffering, a wonderful wise soul, and I am proud to know you.
A great guy, a great day. Congratulations, Frank!
Dear Frank,
Many happy returns! I hope you birthday celebrations go well. Congratulations for looking so good, for staying so sharp, and for continuing to contribute your knowledge and wisdom to the Society and its members.
Best wishes,
Jon.
all best on a happy day. we can only be thankful we’ve had you in our lives and look forward to the future.
best,
ron haviv
Congratulations, Frank! Here’s to the good you will continue to do in the world.
I’m a blessed to call you a friend. And the Dart Society couldn’t ask for a better mentor.
Happy Birthday, Frank. It’s a pleasure and an honor to know you.
Yours,
Phil
Happy happy! You don’t look a day over 69!
Happy, happy birthday, dear Frank. Thank you for all you do for journalists! Much love to you!
Frank, I want to express my personal heartfelt appreciation and gratitude for your vision, leadership, compassion and wisdom. You have inspired a great many people and have had a lasting impact not only on the way journalists cover crises but on nourishing their resilience. Please know how much your guidance is valued. I wish you joy on this special day and in the years ahead. With admiration and deep respect, Donna DeCesare
Happy Birthday Frank!!
May the sweet zyphyr of life blow gently as seventy little candles submit to one power of a man.
I look forward to your 100th in Feb. 2040.
all the best
Philip Williams
Happy birthday, Frank. If you want to pretend that millions of Americans are drinking and firing weapons into their ceilings Sunday to celebrate the anniversary of your birth and not because of the Super Bowl, well, that’s fine with all of us. And on that note, I hope the Lions win tomorrow.
Frank,
Nice to see you make it another decade. You sure as hell made an impact on the world the last one–and on me personally. Your wisdom nourished my career and my life. And when I plunged into my own episode of PTSD in 2007, you helped me find my way clear.
Those are the things I think about when I stop to think about it. But mostly I just think of your big beaming smile.
Enjoy the next ten.
Happy birthday Frank!
May you have many, many more.
You’re an inspiration to so many of us Darters.
Just this past week I spoke about journalism and trauma at the University of Toronto and cribbed many of your messages. You got a credit too!
George
Dear Frank,
with greatest pleasure I am sending warm and big birthday wishes to you from Germany. It is fantastic that you are turning 70. I am honoured to know you as a fellow in 2006 and as a mastermind since. Please stay to be one for another 70 years in this universe! Many hugs, Petra
Dear Frank,
Happy birthday! You are fun, brilliant, generous, compassionate, kind, and a real mensch. Thank you for all you have given to me and to the field.
With love on this special occasion,
Laurie
Happy Birthday Frank. It’s a good thing to get the first 70 years out of the way I guess.
Happy day, Frank. You continue to amaze me with all you do …
Dear, dear, dear Frank!!!! Happy birthday! I love you! I wish you all the best with all my heart. HUG! Margarita
Beautiful Frank! 70 years young!!! Congratulations…
We are all so fortunate to have you in our lives.
Have a wonderful day, year… decade…
Love, Lori
Dear Frank:
I’m 56 now, and I can only say that I am inspired thinking of how you’ve spent the past 14 years of your life. If I can reach 70 with a fraction of your grace, energy, wit, and wisdom, I will have done well.
Congratulations and God bless.
Kathryn
Frank — I hope you have a wonderful day full of good wine and even better friends… Congrats on your milestone; may your good work and leadership continue for many, many years to come!
Frank – Best wishes on your birthday, a time I hope you can reflect on a truly remarkable decade of inspiring a community of close friends through a journalism reform movement that, little by little, is working to lessen cruelty in the world.
You’re my hero.
Miles

Happy Birthday, Frank! A big shout out to you on this momentuous day for all the calming, wise words you’ve offered to me, helping me to see the forest through the trees, making me (and many more) a better journalist. You are the ultimate mensch!
Cheers,
Kristen
Frank, I don’t understand. 70? To me you are ageless. Happy birthday to a seeming bundle of contradictions — the man of the warmest, most welcoming smile, the man of the best hugs, who is the world’s greatest resource on pain, trauma and suffering. We’re all better for what you’ve done in the world, and we’re happier for the happiness you project. Thanks for being you.
Dear Frank,
Wishing you a most Happy Birthday and many more years of continued success, joy, health and abundant good work!
Best regards,
Arlene Levinson
Frank. Twinkling eyes. Infectious laugh. Big round thoughts (as Scott would say). A goal to end human cruelty. Indigineous rabbi. Inspirational. Down to earth, yet high on a pedestal. A one-man movement multiplied by many worldwide. No qualms about group hugs, no conversation too small or too big. So glad I’ve lived in your lifetime. Yours, always yours – Penny
Dear Frank.
I love to have a young friend like you. Congratulations to your effort at catching up with me.
I wish you a wonderful year. Your picture is great–you look wonderful.
I hope that I will see you in the not too distant future and we will have some real time together.
Love
Ervin
Frank, many many hugs in your birthday!
I can’t express how lucky and proud I feel about knowing you and hearng your advice everytime I need it. It seems that the distance will never be a barrier to feel that I can count on your wisdom and inspiration. You know the fellowship is one the best things that have happened in my life, so I celebrate meeting someone like you, whose concern for us as journalists and human beings built the path to what today is the Dart Family… a real family for me.
Cheers!
Truly yours
Jenny Manrique
Frank,
oh Frank! I had no idea. Are you sure it’s only 70?
From all you understand about this rarely humble, often conquering, always complicated species, you must have watched us humans and lived among us so much longer than that…
777 years, maybe? And you still instill love, passion and inspiration. That’s the interesting part. For all the human capacity to kill, torture and neglect you have seen, there is so much love, support and hope. That’s the real mystery. Not the age. All that energy that keeps creating, building, and bringing out the best in so many of us.
Looking at the testimony on this page, I see a community united by hope, passion and new-found ways to act. A community united by you, Frank.
It’s one thing to be a Mensch. It is another to help people with that capacity understand HOW to be a Mensch… and do so much good with it.
Blessed, indeed, to get my fix of Frank every once in a while,
with much love for the next 777,
Stefanie
Happy Birthday Frank!
Sorry I am a little late, but I’m sure you’ll be celebrating all year.
Thanks so much for all your support for us journalists and those we write about.
Gina
