DeCesare Receives Open Society Grant
Donna DeCesare, a 2003 fellow who teaches photojournalism at the University of Texas at Austin, has received a grant from the Open Society Documentary Photography Project.
She will partner with Universidad Centroamericana and the The Mesoamerica Center to combine photography, theater, and skills-based media workshops for youth to address the complex ways that gang violence and migration impact the human rights of young people in Central America, according to the announcement.
DeCesare has done groundbreaking work on the spread of U.S. gang culture to Central America. Earlier this year she provided photographs from her project, Destiny’s Children, as the backdrop for the Off-Broadway play De Novo.
The 2010 Audience Engagement Grant supports projects that serve to engage audiences on human rights and social justice issues, and involves collaboration between individuals and organizations.
