Moni Basu: Return to Haiti
2008 Fellow Moni Basu returned to Haiti for a week and returned to Atlanta with a list of stories, including this broadcast of Sean Penn on Anderson Cooper on the death of a boy from diptheria.
She blogged about the rainy season, gave an update about her wonderful driver, Mariot, and spent time with the woman whose rescue Moni wrote about so lovingly. Last Tuesday, Moni returned to the huge mound of rubble with the woman, and took a drive with the woman around the central palace. The woman’s eyes were wide, taking in every detail of the wreckage. No one in the car spoke.
“It was a time for silence,” Moni said of the time. The two women parted, and Moni said she was filled with sadness.
“All this destruction was much more personalized seen from her eyes,” she said.
